When I first visited Rome in 1998 I thought about looking up the Italian Palanas. My family in the US had not had contact with our Italian relatives for over 60 years and had no information about any of them. In 2001 I tried Google-searching for Palanas, but only came up with my own website and pages that featured other American Palanas. One day on December 26, 2003 I got a random email from an Umberto Palana living in Rome. Since then, we have met in person and I've had a chance to meet a number of family members living in the Rome area. After moving to Rome myself as of July 2006, I decided to take a short trip to Sicily in August to meet the other Palanas on the island where our family originated.
